John Snelson, that's me – born a long time ago in Liverpool.
I started my career in 1964 as an Executive Officer in the UK Ministry of Defence's Royal Ordnance Factories in the field of in costing and management accounting.
From 1969 I worked with International Computers Ltd in London as a systems analyst. Moving to Australia in 1971 I gained 3 more years in Systems Analysis with CableMakers and 5 years with Comalco Ltd in Melbourne as Corporate Systems Manager.
An opportunity arose in 1980 to join Ernst & Whinney in Sydney as a Senior Consultant, elevated to Partner in 1984 and Managing Partner in the Sydney Management Consulting Division in 1988. From the year 2000, I was an Executive Consultant at EY. In total, I was with Ernst & Young for 28 years.
In 2001, I set up the development project that resulted in the launch of the Turramurra Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank. I became the inaugural Chairman, remaining on the board of Ku-ring-gai Financial Services Ltd for the first 3 years until the community enterprise became profitable.
In 2011, I launched Get Shot Magazine – and “Get Shot Radio” followed I think in 2012 - I found myself streaming live round the world every Monday night at 8-00pm. I photographed many great musicians and stars, from Blondie to Bob Dylan, Jeff Beck, Lenny Kravitz, Jethro Tull, Donovan, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, Grace Jones, John Fogarty, Rufus Wainwright, Tex Perkins, Joan Armitrading, Nick Cave, Carlos Santana, Hank B. Marvin, Robert Cray, ZZ Top to BB King. Quite a ride.
Privately, I have been involved as :-
On Tuesday 2nd October, 2007 I was presented with the National Community Award by The Minister for Defence on behalf of the Prime Minister the RH John Howard, being a Certificate of Appreciation "for outstanding service, contribution and dedication to the community".
