  • Biography: Georgina found the gravestone at Gulgong cemetery stating that she was only 21 years when she passed away.

In 1995 I found a photograph of her in the Gulgong Pioneers Museum, in the schoolroom cottage section. She appears in a photograph of the 1930 Gulgong Public School Vigaro Team ! She also looks a lot older than 6 years of age.

I don't know what "Vigaro" is .... it looks like it might be something like hockey ?[:CR:].

Biography

William Frank Snelson1

M, #2133, Deceased, b. 1906

Parents

Main Events

  • Biography: William was an alderman on the Katoomba Municipal Council and also served for a time as Deputy Mayor. I have seen a board at the Council Chambers in Katoomba which show that the City of Katoomba was proclaimed on 31st May 1946 and incorporated into the City of the Blue Mountains on 1st October 1947 - and that W. F Snelson was the deputy Mayor in 1947. No information of historical interest is held in katoomba, but it is held as a collection at Braemar House next to the Public Library at Macquarie Road, Springwood - c/- Mr John Low ph 510744 or his assistant, Ms H. Haliwell.
He was a successful candidate for elections in 1941 and 1944. He was an optometrist in Katoomba Street and was a well known and popular local identity.
He was a candidate for the Liberal Party, contesting the Macquarie electorate with the Prime Minister ( Ben Chiffley ). He was often referred to as the " Meteorological Bloke ", why I am not too certain. William was associated with a score of local organisations on the Mountains, and had a thriving business in the 1940's. In the 1944 elections he polled more votes than any other candidate - not a bad result seeing that there were 21 to choose from !
There is a reference for him in the AGCI records at the Society of Australian Genealogists; at this stage all I have is the reference 25 November Newspaper NSAG NC SER 1/1/77. [:CR:].
