- Biography: Wallace is I believe a patron of the Cobar Museum. He has very kindly provided a great deal of information that appears under the names of his ancestors and relatives in these records and I am sincerely grateful for his contribution to all of this history which no doubt will be of interest to so many people.
A loose end - Wallace mentions a relative "Thomas the Phamacist of Summer Hill or Strathfield". The only Thomas I know who fits this bill is Thomas Morgan Snelson, chemist of Enmore; at this stage, I cannot see the linkage.
Secondly, Wallace mentions a Snelson who, some 40 years ago, was President of the Blue Mountains Shire. I cannot yet place him - but we will !
Wallace also mentions W.J. Snelson, dentist of Macquarie Street in Sydney circa 1950. We don't have a handle on him yet either. Patience. We'll get him too !
Whilst on loose ends, I think it was Connie Skey Wynn who mentioned that an Essie Summers ( Sommers ? ) who writes romantic novels ( Mills & Boon ) and who maybe a New Zealander has made a reference to a Snelson family in the forward to one of her novels. I wonder what that was all about ?
"Linera" is 30 miles to the south of Cobar. Wallace in 1989 was living by himself having lost his 'wonderful wife who passed on in August 1987' ( Wallaces's words ). He was spending most weekends in town ( Cobar ), at the home that was once his parents, and the house where he was born in 1902. Wallace doesn't drive anymore although he drives a Ute around "Linera". In 1989 he was employing a station hand on "Linera" whose wife did some housework and cooking - Wallace isn't too keen to give up his country life !
Wallace helped Bill Clelland with the book "Cobar Founding Fathers" and supplied many of the photographs. as well as writing about the local characters and incidents. He recalls in his letters to me how he and his father Peter went from Wellington to Broad Oak by ponies and buggy to attend grandfather John's Golden Wedding celebrations. When they arrived at Goolma ( halfway ), word came through of the Jack Johnston/Tommy Barns fight. [:CR:].
