  Lache lies about 2 kilometers out of Chester to the South-West between the Wrexham road (A483) and the railway. It is in England. The parish of Lache-cum-Saltney was formed in 1855 out of the parishes of St. Mary ( Chester ) and Hawarden ( Flintshire ). Registers of (a) Baptisms 1853-1964, (b) Marriages 1857-1972 and (c) Marriages at St Mathew's church, Saltney Ferry 1925-55 are held at the Cheshire Record Office. Clwyd parishes are now in the diocese of St. Asaph except for Higher Kinnerton, Lache-cum-Saltney, Threapwood and Whitewell Church, Iscoyd, which are in the diocese of Chester. Until 1849 Hawarden was a peculiar, exempt from episcopal jurisdiction; and parishes in the deanery of Dyffryn Clywd, Denbighshire were in the diocese of Bangor until 1859.
  
  Roughill is a country area located about 2 kilometers West of Eccleston, 1 kilometer South of Lache, and just North of Dodleston and Pulford. It is in England and in the township of Marlston-cum-Lache, St. Mary's parish, Chester.
  
  It's true that the county (and country!) boundaries are very confusing in the "Burton, Denbighshire" area.
  
  Burton lies just to the north-west of Rossett. Burton was in Denbighshire until 1974, then it was in Clwyd, and now in Yr 2000 it's in the County Borough of Wrexham. In ecclesiastical parish terms, Burton was in Gresford until 1840, when most of the township became part of the new parish of Rossett. In civil registration terms, in the early days Burton was in the Registration District of Wrexham (Denbighshire), in the sub-district of Hope (which was in Flintshire) !

  The England/Wales boundary follows the line of the Pulford Brook, just south of Pulford Church (which is in Cheshire); and the old Flintshire/Denbighshire boundary follows the line of Stringer's Brook, which joins Pulford Brook (i.e. the Cheshire border) about a mile south of Dodleton.
  
  Dodleston is in England. However, just to confuse matters, for the last 80 years, the ecclesiastical parish of Dodleston has included Higher Kinnerton, which for all other purposes is in Flintshire. The neighbouring small village of Lower Kinnerton has always been in England !
  
  John was aged 52 when he died in 1800 according to his gravestone and was therefore born about 1748. The children of John Snelson and Elizabeth Crooks were undoubtedly John ( 1769 ), William ( 1776 ), John ( 1779 ), Hannah ( 1781 ), Elizabeth ( 1784 ), John (1789 ).
  
  There is also an entry in the red Eccleston parish books ( burials ) at the Chehire Record Office which is as follows :-
  
  "18 April 1790 Mary Dau of John and Mary Snelson aged 3."
  
  This is a bit of a mystery at the moment. I don't really know who this Mary is. She is not mentioned in the Eccleston Monument Inscriptions held at the CRO in the same series of Red Books relating to the Eccleston Parish Records.⁸

  . Eccleston is an old parish and records exist going back to 1593. It is situated about three kilometers South of Chester on the Roman Road that follows the River Dee southwards to Eaton Hall, the seat of the Grosvenor Estate of the Westminster family.
  
  The association with Eccleston seems to have started with Elizabeth Crooks, as she married John who lived at Lache in Wales. John, like his forebears, was christened at Gresford. His parents and grandparents were married at Gresford; some of John's ancestors were also buried at Gresford. Presumably then, Elizabeth Crooks' family home was at Eccleston, and this was the prime reason for the later christenings and burials. There seems to be no logical connection with the marriage of Samuel Snelson and Mary Benyon - that took place at Eccleston apparently only because that was where Mary lived.
